At Family Promise Cobb County, we believe in the power of community and the transformative impact of service. This past Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 20, 2025, we experienced that power firsthand as more than 20 volunteers from Saint Catherine’s Episcopal Church joined us for a special Day of Service at our Day Center. Their dedication and hard work brought new life to our space, creating a brighter and more welcoming environment for the families we serve.
A Day of Service to Honor a Legacy
The Day of Service, led by Harriet Pyburn and Saint Catherine’s All God’s Children ministry, was a beautiful tribute to Dr. King’s legacy of love, service, and community. Volunteers rolled up their sleeves, scrubbing, cleaning, and organizing every corner of the Day Center. Their efforts not only improved the space but also lifted the spirits of our staff and the families who call our center a temporary home.
Mother Sarah Fisher, along with Harriet and the dedicated team of volunteers, worked tirelessly to ensure every task was completed with care. The impact of their efforts could be felt immediately—from the freshly cleaned surfaces to the newfound sense of order and comfort.
A Generous Gift of Appliances
In addition to their labor, Saint Catherine’s Episcopal Church made a generous donation that will benefit our families for years to come. The new refrigerator and the innovative all-in-one microwave, convection oven, and air fryer have transformed our kitchen into a more functional and welcoming space. Families now have the tools they need to prepare home-cooked meals, which is a critical part of feeling safe and cared for during challenging times.
Looking Ahead: Join Us for the Next Day of Service!
If you weren’t able to join us for our MLK Day of Service, don’t worry—you’ll have another chance to get involved soon! We are excited to announce a second workday scheduled for Saturday, March 15, 2025, where volunteers will focus on landscaping and outdoor clean-up to continue enhancing our Day Center.
This next phase of our revitalization project will include gardening, repair, and maintenance tasks, and we need your help! Whether you have a green thumb, a knack for fixing things, or simply a willingness to lend a hand, your skills and energy are needed and appreciated.
